Discover the Acadian village of Wedgeport, the HISTORIC SPORT TUNA FISHING CAPITAL of the WORLD. Off Route 3, right, 10.5 km (6.5 mi.) away from Yarmouth is Wedgeport (pop. 1698), the host of The International Tuna Cup Match from 1937 to 1976.

Relive the glorious days of sport tuna fishing which attracted thousands of people, including : US President Franklin Roosevelt, Kate Smith, Gene Tunney, Amelia Earhart, Ernest Hemmingway, Jean Béliveau and many others. Teams from around the globe converged on Wedgeport to compete for the Sharp Cup from the 30s to the 70s.

A museum and interpretive centre, opened in 1996 to house the hundreds of mementos and pictures, fishing rods, mock tuna boat, 3 wall tunas, model boats, etc... The quayside museum and interpretive centre also feature other fishing exhibits, fish tanks, touch tanks, Acadian history, Wedgeport general history & videos. Visit the Souvenir Shop. Acadian râpure and seafood chowder served in the Museum Coffee Shop. Reserve a WEDGEPORT TUSKET ISLANDS CRUISE. Walk on the Nature Trail, interpreted nature trails begin at the wharf and lead through woods, past marshes and along shorelines.

The oldest maintained Acadian historical site in southwestern Nova Scotia, the Butte-de-la-Croix, is a symbol of the courage and perseverance of the Acadians return from exile in 1767. The festival Acadien de Wedgeport is held here at the end of June.

In 1997 the Museum opens June 15 to September 14, 9 am to 6 pm, 7 days a week.
